Announced in early October, the 4th Mobile Boot Camp is finally here.
Students from both Public and Private Universities will again have the chance to participate in the 4th Mobile Boot Camp,to be held in the University from 18th (Thursday) to 20th(Saturday) this week. Up for grabs for the top applications developed include a Nokia E72, 1 HP G61-445SI, 1 HP Touch smart sponsored by Safaricom and a cash prize of KShs. 80,000.
Launched in November 2008, under the theme; “Mobile Applications for Development in Africa” the Boot Camp is a crash-course session that will span three days, and is open to both the IT and non-IT fraternity. This November’s theme is : “Mobile Applications: Impacting Africa“.
More on the Boot Camp:The sessions comprise both theoretical and practical sessions whereby participants will gain insight on mobile application development and acquire practical skills on the use of current platforms, frameworks and tools used for the development of mobile applications.
The mobile boot camp aims to:
- Help participants gain theoretical knowledge on mobile application development technologies.
- Give participants an opportunity for hands on development of mobile applications for specific industries.
Some of the topics participants will be exposed to, under the theme “Mobile Applications: Impacting Africa”, include M-Health, Smart Phone Application Development, Introduction to Mobile Web Development among others.
Participants will also be able to choose a lab session to attend from the following selection of mobile development platforms:-
- Beginner Java ME
- Intermediate Java ME
- Python
- Mobile Web
- SMS/USSD
- Android
The event will be capped off with a mobile development competition, as with previous mobile boot camps.
